About Dr.K.L.Rao Krishi Vigyan Kendra

 

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a Farm Science Center under the administrative control of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Lam, Guntur started functioning at Garikapadu village, Jaggayyapet Mandal, Krishna district, from 03-07-2002 funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).The name of a distinguished Engineer Dr.K.L.Rao (Dr.Kanuri Lakshmana Rao) hailed from Krishna district is given to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra established at the village Garikapadu. It is located at 12 km away from Jaggayyapet on NH-65 of Hyderabad to Vijayawada express high way  at 16.53­0 latitude and 80.060 longitudes and an altitude of 84.4 m MSL. At present this KVK has an operational area in Vijayawada and Nuzvid divisions comprising of 8 sub divisions and 29 mandals from 2012.

 

Rice based cropping system is the predominant one in Krishna Eastern Delta and NSP command area. The major crops grown are Rice, Maize, pulse crops- red gram, Green gram, Black gram chickpea, Cotton, Chilli, Groundnut, Sugarcane, Mango, Guava, Coconut, Oil palm, Banana, Turmeric, Betelvine, Papaya, Cucumber, Gourds, Bhendi, Brinjal, Tomato, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Leafy Vegetables, fodders, subabul and eucalyptus in varied farming situations. The identified farming situations are

1. Krishna Eastern Canal Irrigation – Deltaic black soils

2.Nagarjuna Sagar Project Canal Irrigation – Chalka and Red soils

3.Nagarjuna Sagar Project Canal Irrigation – Black cotton soils

4.Lift irrigation – Alluvial soils

5.Filter points – Alluvial soils

6.Tank fed – Medium soils

7.Rain fed – Black soils

8. Rain fed – Red soils.
